Amniotic band syndrome
The foetus in the womb gets entangled by fibrous amniotic bands. The bands constrict parts of the body and may cause various deformities and even amputation. Majority of ABS occur on hands and fingers, followed by other deformities such as cleft lips and clubfoot deformity. ABS is difficult to detect with ultrasound due to the bands being thin, web-like strands.
ABS is not caused by hereditary and genetics so there is little chance of it occurring again.
